ओमान के पास हॉर्मुज जलडमरूमध्य में बीते द‍िनों एक जहाज पर हुए अमेरिकी हमले में उत्तर प्रदेश के देवरिया जनपद के निवासी शिवानंद चौरसिया की मौत हो गई थी. घटना के आठ दिन बाद 17 जून की रात को शिवानंद का पार्थिव शरीर उनके पैतृक गांव सुरौली पहुंचा. शव पहुंचते ही पूरे इलाके में शोक की लहर दौड़ गई और दिवंगत शिवानंद को श्रद्धा सुमन अर्पित करने के लिए हजारों की तादाद में लोग एकत्रित हो गए. 
जहाज पर शिवानंद के साथ काम करने वाले उनके दोस्त और घटना के चश्मदीद अमरेंद्र चौहान भी अंतिम संस्कार के दौरान मौजूद थे. अमरेंद्र ने उस खौफनाक मंजर का जिक्र करते हुए बताया क‍ि "यह घटना सुबह करीब 7:30 बजे की है. मैं, शिवानंद और एक अन्य साथी एक साथ ही रहते थे. हमने सुबह का नाश्ता भी एक साथ ही किया था. शिवानंद की ड्यूटी सुबह 7:00 बजे से थी और मेरी 8:00 बजे से, इसलिए वे नाश्ता करके पहले चले गए थे. ड्यूटी पर शिवानंद और इंजीनियर सुरेश एक साथ काम कर रहे थे. सुबह ठीक 7:30 बजे अचानक दो बार बहुत जोरदार धमाके हुए और जहाज पर भीषण आग लग गई."
