The authorities in the United States have announced what they describe as the "largest-ever" action against India-based transnational organised crime networks. Under a joint international operation named Operation Hard Ball, law enforcement agencies from the United States, Canada and parts of Europe have arrested 24 suspects. In total, 37 individuals, including jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his close aide Satinderjeet Singh alias Goldy Brar, have been charged in three separate federal indictments filed in US courts. Other individuals named in the indictments include gangsters Rohit Godara, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Ravinder Singh Dhanda, and several other alleged members of organised crime syndicates. According to US investigators, these criminal organisations were not limited to India but operated across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The networks are accused of involvement in murder, contract killings, extortion, drug trafficking, arms trafficking, kidnapping, human trafficking, and money laundering, targeting the Indian community in these nations

Maharashtra Police has arrested three people for the assault on doctors at a Kalyan Dombivli hospital led by a Shiv Sena corporator. The video of the assault had gone viral and triggered an outrage. Shiv Sena Corporator Ramesh Mhatre was seen in video assaulting a female doctor and other staff. Police say that Shiv Sena corporator will also be arrested soon. Assistant Commissioner of Police Suhas Hemade has said that police will move against the corporator and he will also be arrested. The incident had happened on July 6 and three days later, police have arrested three persons. Although, an FIR has been filed against the corporator, he has not been arrested yet. Responding to the growing outrage, the state government has also promised a probe and action the corporator. "Assaulting doctors is wrong. We will investigate the matter and take action. If someone has any issue, they must report to the authorities instead of taking the law into their hands," Maharashtra Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam said on Wednesday.

Azad claimed the accused had links with the BJP and raised concerns over how the encounter occurred while the accused was in police custody.
