Times News NetworkBhopal: Habibganj police on Thursday claimed to have nabbed a habitual offender involved in battery theft from ATMs. Batteries worth Rs 3 lakh were seized from the accused. The accused stole batteries from ATMs from different areas of the city.The accused admitted to stealing ATM batteries in the jurisdictions of Habibganj, Chuna Bhatti, Teelajamalpura, Piplani, Misrod, Kolar, Govindpura, TT Nagar, Shahpura, Kamla Nagar, and Ashoka Garden police stations. Police recovered 11 batteries stolen by the accused. Police stated the theft was solved through CCTV footage and on receipt of a tip.Police stated a bank manager on May 11 complained of 16 batteries getting stolen from an ATM. After receiving information about the theft incident, a team was formed to nab the accused.Police stated CCTV footage of routes leading to and from the crime scene was examined, and teams were deployed in surrounding areas to identify suspects matching the description.Police stated on receipt of information that the accused was seen in Koh-e-Fiza area, the police apprehended him. During interrogation, the accused confessed that he stole ATM batteries.Police stated he also confessed to committing 19 incidents of ATM battery thefts in different areas of the city. A total of 11 batteries were seized from the accused. Police stated the remand of accused, Sarim Khan, was obtained, and further interrogation is ongoing.
